Organised by Aluminium France every year, the Aluminnov Encounters are an opportunity for aluminium players to come together around a specific theme. This year, the focus was on the strategic uses of aluminium in the air defence, aerospace and naval shipbuilding industries.
In his introduction to the day’s proceedings, Guillaume de Goÿs, Chairman of Aluminium France and CEO of Aluminium Dunkerque, stressed the importance for France of being sovereign in its strategic production in a geopolitical context that is more uncertain than ever. He reminded that France already imports 500,000 tonnes of aluminium every year, while the ADEME is predicting a 53% increase in aluminium consumption by 2050. To avoid further increasing this dependence on imports, the aluminium industry will need energy competitiveness and long-term visibility, as well as reactive and significant anti-dumping protection.
