On Tuesday 1 July 2014, a reply works committee meeting was held following the Aluminium Pechiney central works committee meeting of 26 June.
The purpose of the meeting was for SECAFI to present their expert reports on the industrial and social parts of the project to transform the Dunkirk site organisation.
SECAFI presented its analysis to the elected representatives of the works committee:
– the impact of the proposed changes on the Aluminium Dunkerque organisation and their feasibility.
– the economic situation at Dunkirk, the aluminium market and the financial need to carry out the organisational transformation project.
– the approach chosen by Aluminium Pechiney to proceed with a voluntary departure plan.
The purpose of the expertise is to provide the elected members of the works committee an independent opinion on the justification for the project and its impact on the organisation.
The elected representatives can now use these analyses as a basis for requesting clarification and putting questions to senior management.
Senior management listened to and noted the comments and questions raised by the expert. It will answer those questions, as well as the additional questions raised by the elected representatives at a works committee meeting on 2 September.
During the various meetings and encounters in the field, we have heard that the analyses do not sufficiently take into account the reality on the ground. To understand these discrepancies, we suggested that the elected representatives go out into the field to:
– discuss the irritants with employees,
– check the accuracy of our analyses through observations.
These discussions are important for senior management and are a focus for industrial relations dialogue, so that we can work together on the future of Aluminium Dunkerque.
